Stem cells are unique cells with the remarkable ability to develop into various specialized cell types in the body and serve as a repair system. They possess two key features: self-renewal, which allows them to divide and produce more stem cells, and differentiation, which enables them to mature into specialized cells with specific functions. There are several types of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, which are pluripotent and can develop into almost any cell type; adult stem cells, which are multipotent and found in various tissues with a limited range of differentiation; and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which are reprogrammed adult cells capable of becoming nearly any cell type. These capabilities make stem cells incredibly valuable for regenerative medicine, disease treatment, and research.
